Sidewalk Bike

You’ve heard of road bikes, mountain bikes, and cross bikes. Well, according to Jeremy there is another type of bike: the sidewalk bike. This season is the first time he is regularly riding his bike with training wheels. He cautiously rides up and down the sidewalk in front of our house, while his brothers zip around him.

Yesterday afternoon we took Molly for a walk, and I suggested to Jeremy that he could ride his bike, knowing this would be the farthest he’s ever gone. He did marvelously, until we came to the end of the sidewalk before crossing the street. I proceeded to walk across, but Jeremy came to a screeching halt. I urged him on, but he replied, “I can’t go further Mom. I don’t have a road bike!”

After much coaxing, he finally pedaled into the street and excitedly stated that his bike is now a road bike. After reaching the sidewalk on the other side of the road, he declared over and over how much fun it was to ride on the road; could he please ride on the road again; he can’t wait to ride on the road…
