God’s Promises

At the beginning of 2014, I embarked on a goal of reading through the Bible, noting all of God’s promises. I just finished the book of John and wanted to jot down some observations.

In the mere 21 chapters of John, there are 46 promises spoken by Jesus Himself. The number of promises in John is second only to the book of Psalms. John recorded so many promises of Jesus, it’s no wonder this is one of my absolute favorite books of the Bible. It’s one of my faves for more reasons than this, but it sure is encouraging to be told promises like:

Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness but will have the Light of life.

So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
