Friday nights this fall are spent watching two football games. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that this guy is already playing high school football.

He plays some defense

and starts on offense at the position that is becoming the Johanik trademark: center.

The varsity team makes a grand entrance during each home game, with Derek carrying the maroon flag.

After singing the national anthem,

Derek and his fellow captain, Ben, pray together.

Then he proceeds to pour out every bit of strength and grit he has onto the field.
