Why School?

During school, we’ve been learning about who God is, and about a month ago, we spent time specifically answering the question: if God created the world, why isn’t it perfect?

One of our activities was to think about the world if it was perfect–what if there was no sin? The boys came up with examples of things we would not need if there was no sin in the world. For instance, we wouldn’t need door locks, eyeglasses, or hospitals.

It had been quite some time since we discussed this, but evidently the thought had been brewing in Peter’s mind. Out of the blue yesterday, he said, “I wish there was no sin, then we wouldn’t have to do school. We would already know everything we need to know.” He has had a case of the winter doldrums lately, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at how it came out.
