A couple weeks ago, we studied the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. We were captivated, imagining what it must have been like to be the first human to ever walk on the moon.

Our history curriculum recommended a DVD series made by Discovery Channel, called When We Left Earth.

I highly recommend that you watch this. I couldn’t get over all of the original footage that they show. We picked it up at the library.

The series ends with the International Space Station.

This led Jake to check his NASA app and find out when the ISS was going to fly over next.  Here is a website that shows when the ISS will fly over a given location.

It was scheduled to fly over at 8:40pm, so at 8:30, everyone was outside with eyes toward the sky. We had the telescope, but it was actually easier to see the spacecraft with the naked eye, since it moved so quickly.

Jeremy was every bit as interested as Jake to spot this man-made machine in space.

Amazing to think that people are living on it right now. If you squint your eyes tightly, you might be able to make out a bright spot in the picture. Though it was much easier to see in person.

If you watch it for just a few minutes, it’s impossible not to recognize God’s majesty and creativity.
